We’ve produced 4 feature-length art films in the period 2024-2025. All films are based on meticulous research and a strong narrative in combination with lots of visuals to provide viewers with a highly-informative and fully accessible window into the story of art.
To find out where you can watch our films, please visit the Documentaries section above.
From 2026 on our focus is on the production of shorter art films, a new video podcast featuring in-depth conversations with professional art historians and – last not but not least – a series of essays about art by author and filmmaker Howard Burton. Find out more below.👇
🔎 By the way, we have deliberately chosen the name Exploring Art History for our substack, YouTube channel and also our Spotify channel to make it easy to find us and share with other art lovers!

🎬 ART FILMS: We’re currently in pre-production research of an extensive range of new films that will be filmed on location in Italy and France. We just released the first Art in Focus film on our Exploring Art History YouTube channel. Those films provide an accessible close-up exploration of a particular artwork, artist, artistic style or period in the history of art.
🎬 🎙️ VIDEO PODCAST: We just launched our new Exploring Art History video podcast featuring in-depth conversations with a spectrum of professional art historians, offering a uniquely accessible window into both their research and personal journeys. We already have a wonderful line-up of specialists in Dürer, Michelangelo, Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Roman funeral monuments, the art of illustrations across the ages and more.
The Art of Conversation: Ranging over a wide variety of artistic styles and periods, the podcast is explicitly designed for a video format, incorporating a panoply of visual detail throughout in order to best illuminate the captivating mysteries, intriguing discoveries and compelling new interpretations under discussion. The podcast is available on our Exploring Art History YouTube channel and Spotify channel. The audio version is available on Apple and other audio channels.
✍️ ART ESSAYS: On our substack Exploring Art History we release a weekly essay about art by Howard Burton. Take for instance a look at a series of recent essays about the magnificent floor mosaics in Siena Cathedral to get a picture of the intriguing stories they contain. Another highlight is the nine-part series about Italian Renaissance artist Sofonisba Anguissola’s journey and the world she lived in to become one of the most accomplished female artists of her time.
